COUNTERMARK!! Description: PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Berenike II. Wife of Ptolemy III, circa 246-222 BC. Æ Obol (26 mm, c. 14 gr.). Seleukeia Piereia(?) mint. Struck circa 224-222 BC. Draped bust right, wearing stephane / Filleted cornucopia; c/m:eagle standing right. Svoronos 1051; cf. Weiser 82 (dichalkon); SNG Copenhagen 517 (with countermark).Condition: VF dark green and red patina.Rarity: This coin is extremely rarely seen at auction and buying it is the only way to obtain a good large portrait of the empress, if you can't afford a large silver or gold coin!We could find only one other sold coin of this large module from Berenike in recent years. This coin sold by CNG sale 73, Lot: 495. This coins displays more actual wear than our coin and it went at $425 + auctions fees.
